Policeman shot dead in northern Egypt

A national security policeman has been shot dead by unknown attackers in Menoufiya, north of Cairo.

Equipped men on a motorbike shot the 43-year-old policeman as he was leaving a mosque at first light on Wednesday, then fled the scene said the source to Al-Ahram Arabic news site. 

The policeman later passed away in the hospital from 12 shot wounds.

The attack is the most recent in close day, by viciousness against individuals from the security forces by asserted Islamists since the 2013 ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi and an ensuing government crackdown on his supporters.

Hundreds of policemen and soldiers have been killed in bombings and shootings in the past 18 months.


The deadliest attacks against security powers have occurred in the northern part of the border in Sinai area, a hotbed of Islamist militancy. Little scale bombings, which target police and additionally financial establishments, have turned into general and regular events in Cairo and other mainland areas and cities.
