German train drivers start a strike

Drivers for Germany's "Deutsche Bahn" have started a week-long strike, their eighth protest in 10 months of pay arrangements and the longest in the rail administrator's history.

Cargo train drivers have stopped work on Monday evening, with traveler train drivers to take action accordingly at 02:00 local time on Tuesday.

Their union, GDL, is asking for a 5% pay rise.
It likewise needs to cut the working week from 39 hours to 37 and the privilege to represent staff, for example, train stewards.

"This strike is completely inappropriate and totally over the top," Deutsche Bahn" said.

"The GDL union is going to cause massive harm to rail passengers, Deutsche Bahn and its employees, but also to the German economy." said the train organization in an announcement.
